In other news I have gone a bit mad with the 'Record From Webcam' button on YouTube and started doing some more regular micro vlogs to fill space. Also in a total TomRanson.com take over I am also recording an audio podcast. You can find that on iTunes if you search TomRanson in the iTunes store. The podcast (hopefully) will turn into a bit of a weekly thing with all the members of 53 Whitstable Road! We will see.

Freakin’ sweet
So today was pretty awesome.
For starters I woke up at 12 which was a nice lie in, although Tuesday I have a 10am lecture so I have to get back into waking up earlier. I watched the Bolton - Blackburn game until the Spurs game started. Wasn't expecting much because we have been a little short of good these days. What happened? 9-1 with Defoe scoring 5! If he doesn't go to South Africa as a first choice striker something is wrong with this world. Lennon was also guilty of 3 assists and a goal, he has to have a good shout for that right wing position. The other goals came thanks to Crouch on 9 mintues, a Bentley free kick after about 88 and a Kranjcar smash in added time.
To cap off the day, I have been wanting a HTC Hero smartphone for a very long time. It would be my 4th phone from HTC and my 1st Android device. Well my Dad told me he has just upgraded my phone to the Hero and it will be with me on Tuesday or Wednesday! How awesome is that, what day.
Just enjoying Pizza from Domino's right now with some wine and MOTD2. Great.
Hilarious
So I just watched the Liverpool - Man City game on Sky and it was really entertaining. Both teams were ok in the first half but in the second they really lost their way. Both the Man City goal could have been avoided by simply defending them. The Liverpool defence was shocking, I could get in that side and would be a significant improvement, and I haven't played in years. Liverpool did ok to come back but equally, Man City shouldn't have let them. Fun to watch though, made me feel better about some of the performances Spurs have shown.
So yeah, today has been another lazy day. Didn't go food shopping because it looks like it's about to pour down. Going to make some bacon inspired food later to use up my bacon. After that it's in the bath and then off to the pub! It's Jaz's boyfriends birthday on Sunday so we are going out for drinks.
In other news, I have been following the progress of the LHC (Large Hadron Collider) and they have successfully turned it on a sent some Hydrogen Protons round it. Awesome. However, I have been watching some construction videos and wondered if anyone else is worried about the inclusion of a Wendy House...
Skullcandy Cans
Today I have fallen back in love with my Skullcandy Hesh headphones. I've been playing a bit of Richard Burns Rally and the new offering from SimBin, Race On. I had my cans on for both the games and it was so immersive. For starters Richard Burns Rally is the single greatest race sim ever made. Not only is the handling model very accurate but if you plow into a tree that car isn't going anywhere, the damage model is very realistic. Unfortunately it means I spend a lot of the time crashing out in the first stage of most of the rallies I enter but it makes me just want to play more. As for Race On, it's a SimBin game...what else can I say. I spent an hour chasing a Dodge Viper Competition Coupe around Zandvoort in a BMW Z4 Coupe. So much fun! The Viper got the best of me in the end, I lost concentration for a second and missed a braking point. Slid sideways past the Viper and into the sand...oh well. Currently I am listening to All Time Low really loud with my cans, current album is very good.
In other news Cold Heart Media filmed an actuality this week about the UKC Fruit Market. I am trying to upload it to YouTube currently so you guys can watch it, I am really proud of it. We are not supposed to broadcast it to the world though so it is a private video, I'll see how that works out. I've been trying to embed it here for a while but it's a 700mb file and it doesn't buffer very well, encoding it as something else doesn't work either. I just ended up with a 16:9 video squashed into 4:3, even if I force it into 16:9, oh well.
In the news? Well Button has signed for Mclaren, leaving Kimi without a drive for 2010. He says that he is just going to take the year out to focus on other things and be back in 2011. Honestly I don't think Button is going to be retaining his title at Mclaren, he will be out driven by Hamilton. It might make for an great partnership. We will have to see.
Monthly updates?
I need to get a bit better at this, I know I say that everything I post an entry but yeah, I really do.
So, since I last posted a lot has happened. I turned 21 for starters! That was pretty awesome, I got loads of wicked gifts. The best of the pile would have to be the one from my parents. I will be driving 14 laps of the Thruxton circuit in a Lotus Exige! I know, freakin' sweet. That will go nicely with my new Driving shoes from my fiancée and driving gloves from Beales and Nick.
I went to Germany to visit Charlie, it was amazing. She looked amazing and being able to give her hugs and snuggles was the best! Leaving sucked so much but it's not till she is back for Christmas, which she is spending with my family this year. Talking of Christmas...and being 21...maybe I will be able to drive my Dad's Libra over the holiday, that would be epic!
Uni work is getting a bit crazy. As much as I love my graphics tablet...oh I got a new one! Yeah this new tablet responds to my fingers too. So I can use it as a large laptop trackpad except this has multitouch too. Anyway, as much as I love it, I hate the module it goes with. Drawing gets so frustrating when your not that great.
I have two 360 consoles that are flashed to play backup games, and both this week have been banned from Xbox Live for violating the Terms of Use. Oh well, I knew the risks I was taking. Fortunately it was a console ban and not an account ban so I can just put my gamertag on another console and I will be well away. Consoles on their own are really cheap to find on ebay so that's not a problem.
Currently I am on reading week, and have done very little work. Found it really difficult to build up the motivation to do anything really, kinda sucky. Now that we are at the end of the week I seem to have found some enthusiasm! So yesterday I worked on some drawings, completing some of them. Today I will be writing a Sound tech paper for the video we have made. I think you will agree it's brilliant.
Well that's all I can be bothered to write about right now. I am sure I will update this a little sooner than a month from now. I hope so anyway...
Today was nice.
Today was a pretty cool day.
Up until about 2pm I was still in my pyjamas just lounging around. I don't have lectures on a Friday and I haven't been given any work to keep up with for Uni so at the moment that are a great excuse to have a good bit of down time! I started the day with my usual trip around the news websites while I enjoyed the early morning weather out of my window.
By the way, here is my bookmark toolbar from FireFox if anyone is interested, points for guessing the pages!
I spent a lot of time playing iRacing which is a new race sim based around the idea of actual racing. You cannot race against the computer, only online against real people. The races are all arranged by the iRacing team and it's just like having an actual professional racing career but without leaving the house or spending all that money. I only have a rookie license currently but should be able to move up through the ranks. Raced twice today and didn't do too badly, 3rd and a DNF after a massive accident. Was in third at the time chasing second place, pushed a little too hard and threw it into a wall...ooops.
After that, at around 2, James rang to find out where his parcel had got to. At that exact same moment a delivery man turned up with it! So I got dressed and headed over to help him build up his new PC, which is pretty cool. Same specification as mine save for a few minor differences, which reminds me! I never did do a full technical breakdown of my machine!
- Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 Quad Core CPU @ 2.83GHz
- Asus P5K WS Motherboard
- 4GB of 800MHz DDR2 RAM
- XFX ATi Radeon HD 4850 1GB
- 500W Silverpower PSU
- 4 Hard Drives of varying size totalling 2.2TB
- DVD+R DL Writer
- PCI WiFi card
- CoolerMaster Elite 330 case with additional blue LED front Hard Drive fan
So yeah, I am very happy with that. Especially as it came in at under £500.
Well after I helped James with that we were hungry, and I had suggested to Gemma earlier that we should eat Chinese since she is supposed to be resting! So we went down to Chop Chop for some food and James offered to pay for me since I had been such a help! That was nice of him. After the food they went to get an early night since they had an early start, while Gemma, Sophie and I watched Anchorman. That is such a fun film, I have seen it so many times.
So now it's coming up to bed time and I am writing this blog entry. I have just got out of the bath, about to slip into my jammies and off to sleep. It could only have been better if that sexy lady I seem to find myself engaged to could have joined us but hey ho. Not long till I go and visit her though, 2 weeks today.
Birthday Time!
So here we are, in the best month of the year. The month that all you lot get to spend a load of money buying me something really nice. This year you get to spend even more because I am turning 21! So I thought I would help people by rattling off a load of really cool things that I want!
An alarm clock. My last one broke a little, it still worked but the back-light didn't so telling the time at night was terrible. I really want a really nice one so that I can wake up to a bit of Chris Moyles in the morning...so yeah, a clock radio would be nice.
Wireless 360 Microphone, possibly 2! Since Guitar Hero - World Tour I have really got into singing games. I have always loved singing anyway, but now I can score points (lol)! I also have the Lips disc but no compatible microphones, so I can't play it.
Surround sound system. I have always wanted a nice 5.1 system ever since I visited my friend Ross's house all those years ago and he had a Bose system. I am not after something top of the line and massivly expensive, but a nice 5.1 system would be epic, especially if it had an optical input for my PC and 360.
I am coming very close to destroying my PC mouse right now. It's a Microsoft desktop set so a new mouse would also require a new Keyboard really. The mouse scroll wheel has stopped working so great and is the most frustrating thing I have ever encountered.
I also accidentally destroyed the screen of my PMP (Portable Media Player). So now I am music-less and film-less when on the go. I want something sexy that can do all that for me. Think iPod Touch but not shit.
A new mobile Phone. Now this one seems a little silly at first since my phone is up for upgrade in a few months but the one device I want more than anything else right now is the HTC Hero in white, and it's not available on an Orange contract. This phone is literally everything I ever want in a phone, and I want it in white because the white ones have a special nylon coating to avoid scratches. Although I sound like nothing could replace the HTC Hero I would also accept a HTC Touch Pro2. Imagine the iPhone, then imagine it not being terrible, then imagine a slide out qwerty keyboard. Epic.
Then comes the things that I always want. Clothes...especially this years away shirt with Freund and the number 4...
Oh I almost forgot, I would love a really nice pair of driving shoes, black Suede. Hang on a minute, my beautiful fiancee has that covered!! Love you!
The Day Has Arrived
So today is quite an exciting one! The first social event for the newly formed Multimedia Society. I have plenty of money in my wallet for drinks and James is making me a Multimedia t-shirt so that everyone know who to follow around the bars! Should be an exciting time! If we get a lot of people attend that is...
In other news I am fully booked up for visiting Germany on the 23rd of October. It's going to be a long old trip, not ideal since I just broke my MP3 player. Oh well, it's my birthday soon. My train leaves Canterbury at 6.20am and I have to change at St Pancas and Tottenham Hale on my way to Stansted for 9am. Then my plane leaves at 10.40am and arrives at Frankfurt Hahn at 12.55pm local time. From there it's a train journey to Frankfurt Main and then change to go to Marburg. Bit of an epic trip but will be totally worth it. Then I do it all in reverse on the Sunday leaving Franfurt Hahn at 11.50am local time and getting into Canterbury West at 4.15pm.
As for this morning, I just got out the bath and am going to wonder into town to pay checks in, then maybe buy a white trilby so that i will be looking pretty fly (I just wanted to say fly...) for tonight.
A New Year!
So here I am, back in Canterbury to start my third year of University life. I have mixed feelings about this one, it's started with a bit of good and a bit of bad.
Lets start with the good shall we?
I really love living in this city, it's a nice place to be. The course that I am doing is a lot of fun and it's getting very interesting this year. This year also has an extra special twist in the form of a new society. A friend of mine (James) thought it might be fun to try and start up a Multimedia Society, so that's what a few of us are doing! We were at the freshers fayre today and got 60+ people to put their names down on the mailing list so it may well be a success! Of course my epic PC setup is also another good reason for loving this place, this house is a great place to live! Just ask the new tenants Beales and Sophie, I am sure they would agree.
The bad parts?
The major down side is the absence of my beautiful fiancée. She is a massive part of my life and my best friend in the whole world. You know that saying you never realise how much you love something till it's gone? Well I love her so much that there isn't actually a word to describe it and I knew this year would be hard. Didn't realise quite how hard. I have studied the theorys of relativity and the concept of time travel in advanced physics classes but saying goodbye to her was harder than all of that.
However, thanks to todays technology we have the wonders of Skype and webcam, so it's bareable and I take joy in the fact that she is making friends and enjoying things in Germany even if we do miss each other dearly.
Some news?
With my upgrade date for my phone getting closer HTC seem to be making life hell for me with a mass of amazing handsets hitting the market. My first choice was the Touch HD, but then there was the Touch Pro2. Basically the same phone but with a slide out keyboard. As a nice kick in the shins that has disappeared from the Orange website so I am guessing I can't get that either. Maybe I could look into the possibiltiy of Android and get myself a HTC Hero? Just when it looked like the Hero was a decent choice though they go and drop the Leo, or Touch HD2. They are all amazing handsets but I am so unsure about what to upgrade to. We will have to see what I fall in love with the most when I go into the Orange shop.
I know I keep saying I will try and blog more often but I really will try. I have, after all, paid for this hosting and domian name.
